CHP 631
Foundations of Chaplaincy II
In this course, the second of two Foundations of Chaplaincy courses, students will examine the professionalization of chaplaincy in contemporary society. We will continue with many of the themes raised in CHP 630, but will focus on the practice of contemporary Professional Chaplaincy. We will examine some of the practical ways in which the theologies and theories that we looked at in CHP 630 are applied in a professional pastoral care ministry, whether in a denominational context or in a secular multi-faith context. We will examine ways of supportive listening and non-threatening reflective "wondering" which facilitate persons in their examination of their spiritual experiences. We will examine religious activities that can facilitate persons in their spiritual and physical growth and healing. We will develop further our ability to think theologically, and to facilitate the person's theological reflection and ethical discourse which can help give order and sense to the chaos that they experience in the crises of their lives.
