The Master of Theology Degree program provides opportunity for additional and advanced studies beyond the Master of Divinity degree in preparation for Christian service or further studies.

Mission

The Master of Theology Degree is a specialized, post-M.Div. (or post-M.Div. equivalent) program of 30 semester hours. It concentrates upon producing graduates who are competent in understanding, exegeting, applying, and communicating the Word of God and able to make a significant contribution to biblical scholarship.

Goals

This program seeks:

  1. To sharpen students' exegetical skills through advanced training and practice in biblical interpretation, providing better-equipped biblical exegetes for leadership in various ministry and/or institutional contexts;
  2. To enhance students' ability to make theological, moral, and practical applications of Scripture in various ministry settings;
  3. To develop students' effectiveness in the expository communication of Scripture, through oral and written media;
  4. To help students become better interpretive mentors who are able to lead others into increased exegetical competence;
  5. To introduce students to the field of scholarly ministry, pressing them to do research that has direct implications for the church and that could be publishable;
  6. To provide a sufficient scholarly foundation in biblical interpretation to enable students who wish to continue into doctoral studies to do so confidently and effectively. In this degree program students will specialize in the interpretation and exposition of Old and New Testament materials.

Admission Requirements

  1. Admission normally requires an M.Div. or equivalent with 3.0 GPA from an accredited Seminary.
  2. If both Greek and Hebrew were not included in that program, students will be required to take these as qualifying prerequisites.
  3. Minimally this would include 12 semester hours of Greek and 12 semester hours of Hebrew.

  5. Applicants also will demonstrate personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, as well as the positive recommendation of his or her church congregation.
  6. As a member of the ACTS community the student will agree to abide by the Community Standards.
  7. No transfer credit may be applied to the final 30 semester hours of this degree program.
  8. None of these credits may be done through distance education format.
  9. Advanced standing may be possible in selected situations, but this will not reduce the required 30 semester hours of study.
  10. Students for whom English is a second language must attain a TOEFL score of 100 iBT (with 23 minimum in each category of Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing) and in addition will be required normally to participate in the English Writing Lab to assist them in the completion of their assignments.
