ACTS Seminaries COVID-19 Fall Semester Update

A plan amidst uncertainty

As British Columbia enters Phase 2 of its Restart Plan, there are still many questions about how the effects of COVID-19 will impact the world in the coming months and years. We believe that in the midst of this uncertainty, God is still working in the church and the world, and God is still calling us to participate in that work.

Our mission has not changed - to educate, form and equip followers of Jesus to live and minister as Christians in the church and the world. Your calling has not changed. If anything, times like these only strengthen the need to engage the world with the good news of Jesus Christ. Our commitment at ACTS Seminaries is to continue providing the education you need in a flexible and accessible manner.

What’s in store for the Fall?

For a number of years, ACTS Seminaries has worked to offer education in a variety of formats – traditional on-campus, one-week modular, live-stream lectures and fully online courses. Students have always been able to join the ACTS global community of learning through various access points. This Fall, we plan to take this approach one step further.

Recognizing that even if we are able to meet face-to-face in a more limited manner in the coming months, not every student will be able to attend classes in person, whether due to underlying health concerns, illness or family circumstances. For this reason, we are offering remote learning options for every Fall semester course.

If it is safe and prudent to do so, ACTS intends offer a limited number of in-person classes in the Fall semester. We will follow all guidelines set by the Ministry of Health regarding limits on large gatherings, physical distancing, enhanced disinfecting, work/study from home options, use of personal protective equipment, etc. But every potential in-person course will include a remote-learning option, so no one needs to choose between their personal health and safety, and their education.

Benefits of borderless learning

Part of this challenge will be to provide you with the same level of education regardless of where you choose to study. We are working with our faculty to adjust their courses to accommodate this remote learning format. It will be different from traditional on-campus courses, but our goal is to provide you with the same high-level educational outcomes. Your education will still be thoroughly biblical, deeply relational and culturally relevant. Additionally, the remote learning model allows for greater flexibility in fitting your studies into your life.

At the same time, we recognize the importance of a learning community. Interactive forums allow you to go deeper in your understanding and further in application. As well as engaging with professional online content and learning alongside peers across the globe, faculty mentors will help guide you through their learning journey. Regardless of distance and diverse learning situations, our community is held together by its commitment to the same gospel.

Support for each student

At a time such as this, the world needs followers of Jesus who are ready to pursue their calling. You have been called by God to live out the gospel where you are. We are grateful you have chosen to prepare for that calling at ACTS Seminaries. By integrating teaching, online technology and a community of learning, our multi-access campus provides accessible education that can be directly applied in your unique world and calling.

Your studies are a significant investment in your life and ministry. We want you to feel confident in continuing your education safely and without interruption. With the Fall schedule released and up-to-date, it is important to register early to allow us to better support your studies. If you would like assistance in planning your courses or gaining insight going forward, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your enrolment advisor or contact us at acts@twu.ca.
